  1. Hi Phil, I have just registered, and am havving trouble with some features on the site. I cannot get links to work, to provide comment on entries. I am a descendent of George Flay b 29.06.1829 Appleshaw Hampshire. He migrated to Australia in the 1850s. There are quite a few mysteries or errors in his line in this site, but I can’t open the link on the actual page to provide feedback. Here are a few items. Matilda Flay 17801apparently one of his siblings, appears to have been born exactly one month after her brother Frederick. Even the miracles of modern medical science can’t match this! I suspect this Matilda belongs to another Charles Flay altogether. Albert Flay 18052 is a mystery. He was apparently my grandmother’s brother. But none of my grandmother’s descendents ever knew of an Albert Flay and there are no traces of said Albert Flay in any Queensland, birth death marriage or burial records. If John Flay could enlighten me as to where he found this Albert Flay I would be most interested. There are others errors in this line, but I will provide info on them as time permits. Fantastic site. What do you do for a day job?

  2. Hi,

You need javascript and pop-ups enabled to be able to click on the ‘comment’ link. It pops-up a small window allowing you to enter your name, email address and, of course, your comment/update.

John and I are aware that there are errors in the Flay line and they are being addressed. Trouble is other things keep popping up and both the Flay line and the Wates family have suffered accordingly. I am just about hanging on to full-time job repairing TVs, videos and Hi-Fi equipment etc. so I can’t spend as much time as I would like to on research!

I welcome updates and additions and every time I get a comment like yours I spend as much time as I can on sorting out that particular family. Basically, if there is no census information on the site about a particular individual who lived in the UK during the census years, I haven’t got around to him/her yet! I do apologise for this and will try to get everything sorted in the fullness of time. I do, of course, pass on any updates to John Flay who is currently going through all his data.

Here is the 1841 census information for Matilda (I7801) and co.

You can see from this that Matilda was two years younger than Frederick and so I suggest the year of his birth has been entered incorrectly.

In 1851 Matilda was living with her brother John:

As for Albert Flay (I8062) I have no idea and will have to pass it on to John. As you are aware, it’s not always easy to obtain correct information from across the pond in either direction but with the help of good people like yourself we will endeavour to correct our errors.

Thank you for your comments about the Flay family and about the website and I hope you get the links working.

    Regards,

    Phil.
