Shared note

Thanks to Ian and Meriel, it now looks like the note in Nain's diary - "Aug. 6th 1942 - Dick and Lizzies Golden Wedding." refers to Richard Barnes (not Jones) and Elizabeth Williams. There are records of people with these names from the September quarter 1892 marriage records for W. Derby (volume 8b page 579).

From the 1891 Census (RG12 Piece 2994 Folio 54 Page 30) there was a Richard E Barnes, 19, a Grocer's Assistant, living at 56 Thorburn Street, Liverpool. He was the brother-in-law of the head of the household who was not present. Further investigation is needed but it's possible that Richard's mother married twice. The first time to a Mr. Baldwin and they produced Catherine E Baldwin. Mr. Baldwin went on to marry again and produced Elizabeth Baldwin from the second marriage. The first Mrs. Baldwin then went on to marry Mr. Barnes and they gave rise to A E Barnes and Richard E Barnes. Somewhere along the line there is a Mr. and Mrs. Tweed as there was a cousin of the above by the name of Harry B Tweed.

Marriage Record: Name: Barnes, Richard Edward; Record Type: Marriages; Quarter: September; Year: 1892; District: West Derby; County: Lancashire; Volume: 8b; Page: 579.

From the 1901 Census (RG13 Piece 3438 Folio 34 Page 7) Richard, 30, a Grocer, was wife, Elizabeth, 32, at 68 Granby Street, Toxteth Park, Liverpool. They had a visitor by the name of John Thompson, a widower aged 33, from Burscough, Lancs who was a Blacksmith.
