Shared note

Thanks to Ian and Meriel, it now looks like the note in Nain's diary - "Aug. 6th 1942 - Dick and Lizzies Golden Wedding." refers to Richard Barnes (not Jones) and Elizabeth Williams. There are records of people with these names from the September quarter 1892 marriage records for W. Derby (volume 8b page 579).

From the 1871 Wales Census for Aberdovey, Merionethshire (RG10 Piece 5602 Folio 37 Page 34) Lizze (sic), 4, Scholar, was with her mother Elizabeth, married, 32, from Borth, Cardiganshire, in High Street, Aberdovey, Merionethshire, Wales. With her were her siblings Ann Elizabeth, 10, Scholar, Mary, 8, Scholar, Margareta (sic), 5, Scholar, and Owen, 1. All the children were recorded as having been born in Aberdovey, Merionethshire. Also present was servant Elizabeth Davies, 22, General Servant from Borth, Cardiganshire. Visiting the family were her uncle John Davies, 35, Master Mariner from Borth, Cardiganshire, aunt Amelia Davies, 25, from Carnarvon, cousin David Davies, 4, Scholar born Aberdovey, Merionethshire, and cousin Jane Ann, 1, born Carnarvon.

From the 1881 Census (RG11 Piece 5478 Folio 49 Page 20) it would appear that Elizabeth, 13, was working as a Housemaid at Bryndyfi, Aberdovey, Merionethshire, Wales. This was the home of Ellen Edwards, 59, from Llanfihangel, Merionethshire, who was living off Rents, Interests and Dividends and Dora Edwards, 20, her Independent daughter born in Aberdovey, Merionethshire, Wales. Ruth Richards, 29, from Carno, Montgomeryshire was a General Servant to the household.

From the 1891 Census (RG12 Piece 2937 Folio 10 Page 14) Elizabeth, 22, and her sister Jane, 15, were working as Domestic Servants and living at 63 Margaret Street, Toxteth Park, Liverpool, Lancashire which was the home of Greek Commission Agent Penagotte Collire and his family.

Marriage Record: Name: Williams, Elizabeth; Record Type: Marriages; Quarter: September; Year: 1892; District: West Derby; County: Lancashire; Volume: 8b; Page: 579.

From the 1901 Census (RG13 Piece 3438 Folio 34 Page 7) Elizabeth, 32, was with her husband Richard E, 30, a Grocer, at 68 Granby Street, Toxteth Park, Liverpool. They had a visitor by the name of John Thompson, a widower aged 33, from Burscough, Lancs who was a Blacksmith.
