Notes |
- Always recorded as the wife of James Carden Collins, but her given name is variously recorded as:
Susan Jane Cox Pugh, Susan Pugh, Jane Susannah Cox Pugh.
Actually, she was Mrs Lister when she married JCC, presumably widowed or divorced - divorced it says on the marriage certificate. The certificate has been altered in 1972 'by order' [wonder by whom?] to change her name from Pugh to Lister. Wonder if Carden knew??!!
Her father was J P Pugh, a 'Police Magistrate' who established "Pugh's Almanac of Queensland History."
Death cert gives Paraplegie, Cerebral Haemorrhage, Heart failure, as cause of death.
She was born in Bermuda and married [in England] for 16 years to Bryan Lister. [There is a possible problem here since she died in1918 aged 78, so born in 1840. If she divorced in 1871, the year she married Carden, she married Lister in 1855, aged 15. Possibly 16, but only just.]

From the 1861 Census (RG9 Piece 3048 Folio 14 Page 21) Jane S C, 21, from Bermando (sic) (actually Bermuda), was with her husband Bryan, 37, Surgeon and General Practitioner from Halifax, Yorkshire, in Littleborough, Lancashire, England.
