    • From the 1891 Census (RG12 Piece 4587 Folio 58 Page 2) Mary, 9, was with her parents William, 38, a Farmer, and Gwen, 37, at Dyffryngwyn, Dauddyfryn, Towyn, Merionethshire, Wales. With her were her siblings Ann, 13, William, 11, Hugh, 6, and David, 1. The family had two Farm Servants; Hugh Edwards, 25, from Cemaes, Montgomeryshire and John Daniel Evans, 20, from Brwyno, Cardiganshire along with a Domestic Servant Mary Pugh, 18, from Pantyron, Merionethshire.

      From the 1901 Census (RG13 Piece 5190 Folio 25 Page 14), Mary, 19, is living with her parents at Tynewydd Farm, Aberdovey, Merionethshire, Wales. Her siblings Ann(i)e, William, Hugh, David J, Catherine E, John and Richard are also present. Her Grandaunt, Ellen Griffiths, a 90 year old bedridden widow of no means is also in the home.

The Project

Initially, the Williams family from Aberdovey was the main target of research. Being a very busy port, Aberdyfi produced sea-faring families with many of the men reaching the pinnacle of their trade as Master Mariners. My grandfather, John Davies Williams, served as a 'Boy' aboard the schooner Sarah Davies at the age of 13.
